CAW Local 1285 today represents approximately 5,000 members who
understand that we depend on ourselves, our Union, and a short list of community based organizations with common goals to "force"
our employers and government to provide us with dignity in the workplace, security, and a decent standard of living that every person deserves!
Over the past year and a half, we have lost hundreds of members due to layoffs and the never ending downsizing and greed of the corporate world.
To those brothers and sisters, who face an uncertain future, I would like to give a word of solidarity and to promise you that you will not be forgotten by this Local Union.
As workers we need to care for one another, we cannot afford to be divided, we have to rely on our unity in order to make tomorrow a better
day. Selfishness and individualistic agendas we call "the me, me, me society" will not allow us to accomplish our common dreams. An injury to
one is an injury to all. Our Local encourages participation and activism of our members, which is necessary to strengthen the Labour movement.
On behalf of the Executive Board, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for the unconditional support that you have given us, and with
that attitude in mind I have no doubt that the future of working people around the world will be a better one! I cannot forget our retirees, who
were the foundation of our Union and are the reason for the rights and benefits that we enjoy today. Best wishes to you all, and take care of each other!
In Solidarity,
Paulo Ribeiro, 1st Vice President
